OT on a Fine Day

Yesterday was the first time I work over time on a weekend. And I kinda like the environment on weekend. It was very quiet and peaceful. Some people like to work with a huge group of people but not me. I feel much more comfortable without having a lot of people walking around the office. I had to OT (my senior as well) because there’s work need to be completed by next week.

The thing about my office is that the person who is the last one to leave the office will have to lock the office and keep the key. The next day, he/she will have to come early to unlock the office’s gate. So that’s your responsibility if you’re the key holder. The day before that, I asked one of the senior engineers whether what time does the key holder will unlock the gate. He told me that usually drafters will unlock the gates on weekend because they will work overtime. And when he told me about it, I smiled because of the way he talk about it. He said that drafters normally want to claim OT and in most cases, they will come early in the morning, (say at around 8am) so that they go back home early at around 12pm since the minimum hours to claim OT is 4 hours. The way he describe their behaviour is like watching a documentary on Animal Planet, where the host will describe the species’s behaviour in the wild. I find it pretty amusing. =D

Although the working environment on weekend is kinda nice, I don’t think I’ll will do it often. The travelling alone really exhausting… ><

The Project so far

It has been almost 5 months since I started working, and I do learned something from my senior though it can be very tiring at time. And I got to admit that I admire my senior’s perseverance in handling the project. Unlike other projects which have more than 1 seniors n juniors as a team, it is just me and my senior in it. Just the two of us, handling the renovation project.

She did the most of it, and I could only help her a little bit since there’s still so much for me to learn first. It is a one hell of the project and for her to still remain in it, she deserves a greater reward from the company. Before I came into the company, there was another boss who do the project with her. But he ‘ran’ away from the company in the middle of the project, leaving her alone to settle it. I guess that guy couldn’t take the pressure as well.

Everytime she went for meeting, everyone will push the blame on her and attack her, just to save their own ass. It’s easy to see why they always attack her. Easy target, many vs one. Once in a while, I’ll ask her how’s the meeting and when she told me how they ‘ambush’ her, I felt sad and pity for her. And yet, she still stick to this project even though I’m sure she can easily withdraw from it and switch to other project. I wish I could help her do more, to at least back her up and go meeting with her. But with my current ‘fresh grad’ status, there’s nothing much I can do now besides trying to level up as soon as possible.

Stay strong Liew!! It’s going to end soon =D

1st Run: Brooks Half Marathon

It had been quite a while since I last update my blog. Here are the quick summary of what happened this past few weeks.

1) I attended my convocation. Traveled over hundreds of kilometers and waited for hours just for that 30 seconds of fame on stage.

2) A day after my convocation, I joined a marathon together with my colleagues. It’s my first time joining such a huge scale marathon; and i think there were thousand of people on that day. I didn’t train much for that event and I joined it to see the extent of my stamina. There are 3 categories; 5km, 10 km and 21km. I took part in 10km because 5km doesn’t feel challenging at all while the 21km, let’s just forget it.

I timed myself during the marathon and I didn’t have a high expectation because I consider myself as newbie in this event. My target was to reach the finishing line at minimum an hour and a half. So I just ran along with the others while inhaling all the hazy air and feel my heart beats extra hard. Once I reached 10km distance, I clocked in the time of approx 1:12:50. I’m surprised with the timing because I stop few times to catch my breath and drink water. Not bad at all, newbie. =D

3) Today’s is Avril Lavigne’s concert. I missed it last time and I missed it again this year. I’m sorryyyy… ><

I wanted to go real bad but the timing wasn’t right. Sigh, please come back to Malaysia again. =(
