A More Humane Way to Punish

‘Kelantan has maintained that the hudud capital punishment, if enforced in the state, would be a more humane way to deter people from indulging in cri­minal activities.

Mohd Amar said in cases where hudud calls for the convict’s hand to be amputated (such as in cases of theft), this procedure would be done by surgeons.’

“After the amputation is carried out, the convicted person would be allowed to go back home to be with his family.

“This is unlike the current criminal procedure code, which metes out a jail sentence on offenders,” he said, adding that this incurred costs for the Government.’

I read these from The Star Online and I find it hard to believe that people will actually say this kind of stuff. Amputate a person’s hand is more humane punishment than serving time in jail? Is this for real? How does he even think of such reason? By sentencing a person to jail and isolate him from the society, the ideal outcome would be that he will repent and think twice before doing any criminal offence because nobody would want to go through that again; wasting time in jail and being separated from loved one. It might happen that way and it might not. But one thing for sure, at least that person will left intact with his body parts. Hudud may be more effective in preventing people from repeating the offences (of course it could. You’re basically chopping off other people’s hand, so what’s left for him to use to repeat the offence? duh…) but to say that it’s a more humane way to punish people?? What is your definition of ‘Humane’?

I don’t know. It’s just doesn’t make any sense to me. And I’m not being disrespectful to any religion. I just simply believe that laws should be alter to suit the present time.
