The “Typical Chinese are LOSERS” video

I was browsing through the facebook yesterday, and there’s a
page posting a link to a youtube video, with this as the title: “Typical Chinese
are LOSERS”. It wouldn’t be weird if the video was created by race other than Chinese.
But believe it or not, the video was created by a Chinese. Huh?? A Chinese guy
posting a video to insult the Chinese?? It’s like a policeman organised a riot against the police force..

Naturally, it got my attention to view
it and I gotta say that………… it’s an awkward video. I think that guy was trying
to express his feelings in a funny way, but I don’t find it humorous at all. It
was speechless all the way until the video ends.

Basically, the video is about this guy who prefers to talk
in English rather than in Chinese. He claimed that many of his Chinese friends
hate it when they ask him something in Chinese and he replied them in English.
He was ‘shooting’ all the typical Chinese throughout the video; about how he
dislike them calling him a banana, or how he wants to help them improve their English
and thus, they must thank him instead, or how they laughed at him when he tried
to speak Cantonese/mandarin.

Being a banana too myself, I do understand his points (note:
he’s not a banana, he can speak can/man) but is it necessary to create this
video just for this purpose? Though the video is some sort of supporting my
side, I find it offending as well. It’s ok to hate these kind of people (there’s
few people in my list too =D) but there’s a thin line between appropriate and
overdoing it.

As expected, lots of hate comments coming in and for your
info, he even created another video, saying that he went to a police station
because he received 2 comments that he believed are threatening his live. Wow,
ermmmm… okay…..

Wanna know another interesting part? I know that guy! We
studied in the same secondary school and he’s 1 year older than me. We met few
times before but rarely exchange any word. The first time viewing this video, he
looked familiar and after doing some research online, I finally know who this guy
is.

And since you had spent your time reading until here, I’m
going to tell you another interesting thing. In response to that video, a girl
uploaded a video to back him up. And I know that girl too! Her age is same as
mine, studied in the same secondary school and we were both librarians too. Lol,
it’s amusing to watch their videos. I mean, how often can you find someone you
know who uploaded such bold videos?

Just a note to that guy: I admire your guts to stand up and
express your feelings that way. Not many people dare to do what you just did.
But at the same time, you have to keep in mind that in internet, where
everything is virtual including the person identity, everyone will comment
whatever they want, no matter how nasty it is. A coward and timid guy in real
life can suddenly become a big bully in virtual world. So, be prepare to
receive mean comments if you want to upload such video again in the future.

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

This is the 1st time I watched an anime with a
very sad ending. And to tell the truth, my eyes were partially filled with
tears and I almost give in to cry but I manage to control it and it wasn’t easy.

In most war films, the stories were about how the soldiers
from different countries, fighting each other to gain more power or freedom.
They will show how the soldiers suffered and their struggle in their aim of
obtaining the country’s independence. But this anime is different from that
type of war film.

It concentrates on the effect of the war on the civilian
involved, especially the 2 main characters; a young boy and his younger sister.
Their father passed away on duty (he’s a Navy) while their mother died because
of the air raid. Since then, they lived with their aunt but after a while, the aunt
doesn’t like them to stay with her because of the extra mouth to feed. So the
siblings have to struggle on their own to survive in Japan during World War II.

That little girl is so cute and you can see how close is their relationship while trying to survive all the hardship of life.

The happy news for today is I found out that BoA is one of the 30 hottest Asian celebs!!! How cool is that!!!!!!!! OMG, so proud of her. It’s like somebody telling me that my child is one of the 30 best student in the world. BoA Rock!!!!

And this is what they said, “You can’t speak about K-Pop without this lovely lady!” Yea man!!

Confused….

The first week of the sem break was a fun one, doing nothing
but rest and watch tv and mess around with my elder sis. On the 2nd
week, it became a dull and depressing week. Since I have extra free time, I’ve
been spending more time online and there were a few posts on facebook that keep
on appearing in my mind.

A primary school friend’s father just passed away recently,
and gosh… there’s no word to describe how sorry I feel for him. The thing that
makes it more painful is that, both of us are at the same age, which means that
I could be him, and he could be me. I couldn’t imagine how I will cope if I
were in his shoes instead. “Mimpikan ayah…..”. That is his recent post and it
really hit the spot on a fragile heart. Sigh, we don’t appreciate what we have
because we always think that this kind of things will only happen to other
people and not us.

Another post is about my coursemate asking me whether I am interested
to join a competition that relates to my course. I look at the details of the
competition and I don’t have the slightest idea on how to complete the project,
even though I have wasted 2 FREAKING years studying this course. Build
structure; consider safety factor and lowest cost, etc…. Urgh… 20% of my ‘will’
is forcing me to at least read finish the question and understand it while the
remaining 80% just don’t give a damn about it.

Last Friday night, during the cell group meeting, a friend
told me that his first option is to take mass communication course, but because
of the expensive tuition fee, he went to UM and graduated as a doctor. And he seems
happy with his work right now, and that decision he made in the past greatly
affect his future. Listening to his story force me to think, “Is it really too
late?” and it make me reconsider again all the ‘what if’ options.

And it doesn’t help much looking at friends’ posts and
pictures, saying how much they enjoy studying oversea..

I’m really confused right now ><
