Few days ago, there are times when we discussed about staying back late in the office to work overtime, whether is it a good thing or not. Whether will the company see you as an extremely hardworking person or individual with lack of proper time management. One of the point is about the posting on fb, about the guy comparing the individual that go back on time and individual that always work overtime. So we been using that point to make fun with. We keep on saying that people who stay back in office have no life while people that go back early have very interesting life. After saying that, we asked each other, what do you do once you go back home. And most of our answers are watching tv, drama, youtube or just simply surfing fb. Then I replied that maybe the one that go back early also don’t have real life at all since all the time spent is in front of a screen. Not much different with the people in office, who is also looking at the screen at the same time as us. Then my colleague mentioned that our secretary once told him, the most important thing is who you are using the time for. When you work over time, you’re using your limited time for the company, not for yourself. But if you go back home and spent the whole night surfing the web, it’s not consider as ‘no life’ because the main point is that you’re using the time for yourself. That’s the reason why she always go back on time and I really never thought of it that way.
We only have 24 hours a day. 7 hours spent on sleeping and another 8 hours spent in office. After excluding the time taken for travelling and other minor tasks (eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc), will you still spend the remaining time doing work in office? At least now I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time watching video and play games. =D
